GILT Groupe, Inc., recently launched its culinary-focused website, GILT Taste with a curated dinner in San Francisco hosted by Susan Lyne and Ruth Reichl. Former Editor-in-Chief of Gourmet and restaurant critic for The New York Times,Reichl is the editorial advisor to this new online gourmet marketplace. GILT couldn't have chosen a more fitting culinary voice to foray them into their new spectrum.
Gilt Taste Editorial Advisor, Ruth Reichl
“I believe that Gilt Taste is the next generation of food media, giving you everything you love about food in one place: ideas, inspiration, recipes, stories, and the ability to buy the best. It’s going to be the food magazine of your dreams,” said Reichl. “With this site, we’ll be able to create a community where people who love food can come together and share their experiences.”

Gilt Taste will provide two ways to shop: an ongoing selection of the best foods in all categories, available at market prices, including meat, seafood, cheese & dairy, pantry, sweets, produce and equipment; and “flash sales” of exclusive and highly limited-quantity products. Items will be shipped directly from the source (farm, purveyor, store) to customers, to ensure the best quality upon arrival.

Attendees of the San Francisco launch included chefs, restaurateurs, media, and members of the team at Gilt Taste. Spotted in the intimate crowd were Bay Area Chefs Elizabeth Falkner, Michael Mina, David Lawrence, Bruce Aidells, Michael Chiarello, Tim Hollingsworth, and Nancy Oakes. As expected, the event fell on a work night, so several of the chefs made an appearance and headed back to their kitchens, while a few enjoyed a well-deserved day away from expediting and the stoves.

"The website is a great start to getting the public educated about great ingredients that special purveyors have out there. Hopefully it will get the public even more connected with the products that they eat and support.", said Hollingsworth. Several other chefs echoed this sentiment. It's no surprise that many on the Gilt Taste buying team have worked with top chefs, restaurants, and editorial outlets in the past, and they meticulously research what purveyors and what ingredients these chefs and restaurants are using in their kitchens.

The folks at Gilt Taste seem to be on to something good, quite literally. “Our mission at Gilt Taste is to help our community discover amazing food in a simple, fast, beautiful way,” said Shan Lyn Ma, General Manager of Gilt Taste. “In true Gilt style, we will offer a carefully curated selection of our favorite foods, and deliver them straight to your doorstep.”
