Tucked away in the corner of the Malibu Country Mart is world-famous Japanese chef, Nobu Matsuhisa's well-known restaurant Nobu. Although a bit of a trek, I always seem to find myself at this Los Angeles Nobu location just off the picturesque Pacific Coast Highway. It seems that others agree, since this popular spot is always packed with feasting and festive locals and visitors alike. Celebrity sightings are a common occurrence at this bustling restaurant and don't be surprised if you are sitting elbow to elbow with an Emmy, Grammy, or Academy Award winning star. On my most recent visit, a certain American Idol host and judge were seated at the table right next to us.

Sushi and sashimi are an obvious choice, but popular must-have items include the special hot and cold family style dishes including the thinly sliced New Style Sashimi with a yuzu ponzu sauce, Yellowtail sashimi with Jalapeno, Rock Shrimp Tempura with a Creamy Spicy Sauce, and Nobu's famous melt in your mouth Black Cod with Miso. Give me three orders of the black cod with a bowl of steamed rice, and I am good to go. Nobu, Malibu also offers an assortment of tempura and a separate Omakase menu. Drink selections include signature martini cocktails, beer, wine and sake.

Since the restaurant is located in the Malibu Country Mart, you can get there early and make a stop in to nearby Intermix, James Perse or Vince for a pre-dinner shopping fix. For those who love a breathtaking view, plan your meal post sundown and gaze at the dreamy sunsets with a stop off the PCH before dinner.
